"Whiskymaking Meets Synaesthesia" is a limited-edition blended malt Scotch whisky from Compass Box, crafted in collaboration with Mannie Monaghan, the 2019 winner of The Circle international bartender competition. This unique creation stems from Mannie's synaesthesia, a condition where senses intermingle, allowing him to experience aromas and flavors as colors. Inspired by the warmth and positivity of the color coral, this whisky combines tropically fruity malts and Oloroso Sherry cask influences to evoke the vibrant and lively hues of coral.
Bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof) without an age statement, this blend is comprised of:
- 50.4% Malt Whisky from Glen Elgin Distillery (primarily Recharred American oak barrels)
- 17.3% Malt Whisky from The Speyburn Distillery (Refill Hogshead)
- 14.3% Blended Scotch parcel (First Fill Sherry Butt)
- 13.5% Malt Whisky from Teaninich Distillery (First Fill Sherry Butt)
- 2.3% Malt Whisky from the Linkwood Distillery (Refill Puncheon, ex-STR barrel)
- 2.2% Malt Whisky from Ardmore Distillery (First fill Sherry Hogshead)
This whisky is a bright and aromatic masterpiece, showcasing the fusion of artistry and science in whiskymaking.
Appearance: Very light yellow, nearly colorless like champagne, with strong legs. Nose: Bright aromas of pineapple and stewed peaches leap from the glass, accompanied by hints of bacon, leather, tobacco, and iodine. Palate: A delightful blend of vanilla, honey, and Cognac-soaked sultanas, intertwined with subtle peaty notes from the Ardmore malt. The flavors are complex yet harmonious, mirroring the vibrant essence of coral. Finish: Smooth and lingering, with the sweetness of fruit and honey balanced by a gentle, herbal peat note. Appearance: Observe the whisky in a glass. Note its very light yellow, almost colorless appearance, resembling champagne. Swirl the glass to see the strong legs form. Nose: Inhale deeply to experience the bright aromas of pineapple and stewed peaches, followed by complex notes of bacon, leather, tobacco, and iodine.
